Hey everyone,
I wanted to give you all an update on LAPD 2195’s progress which will hopefully renew your confidence and excitement for the game. However, there are some behind-the-scenes developments that I'm not sure I can discuss yet, so I’ll be a bit cryptic in this post.
I was recently contacted by someone who was previously the Head of Games at a major streaming platform (which will remain unnamed for now). They've invited us to join their spring showcase—completely free of charge! This is such an exciting and generous opportunity, and I cannot express how amazing it is. Without getting into specifics, the cost for other studios to participate in this showcase is literally out of our reach financially (not hard to do when we’re working with a $0 budget, but I think you get the idea). So a huge thank you to the person who gifted us this spot — our gratitude is endless. :)
Since it’s a spring showcase, I’ve got a few months to prepare a trailer that will hopefully bring some much-needed exposure and help boost our Wishlists on Steam. We’re currently sitting at just under 8,000 Wishlists, which is fantastic given we’ve barely shown anything publicly yet, but I’m hoping this showcase will at least double that number.
In terms of game progress, I’ve been working on the two levels for the first playtest of ‘our version of Precinct Assault’. One level is about 60% complete, and the other is blocked out but still needs detailing. I plan to get it to a similar point of completion as the other level over the next week, after which I’ll shift focus entirely to the trailer for the upcoming showcase. A few weeks ago, I also realized that the Team Base I built in the numerous videos I posted on YouTube was way too large and overly detailed for what it needed to be. I had a vision at the time of trying to make a very immersive world, but forgot about the gameplay almost entirely. Lol. So, I’ve been re-designing that part of the game to make it more streamlined. I’ve decided to change it into a drop pod for each team, which then breaks apart into the "Power Core" that each team will be attacking/defending (instead of only getting one unit into the enemy base). Hopefully, I'll be able to show it sometime soon as well, but as I said my major focus for now is going to be the showcase trailer.
If you happened to catch the recent conversation I had with a community member in the Discord general chat, the trailer won’t include gameplay footage. Developing the game to a point where you can capture gameplay footage takes time — basically until the alpha stage — so instead of forcing it, I’ll be creating a "reveal" trailer. The entire trailer will be a pre-rendered cinematic, though it will still be in-engine and at the level of detail you can expect in the final game. It’ll be more story-driven than gameplay-focused. I’ve already written the script and will be storyboarding it soon before jumping into Unreal to put it all together. I’m already super excited about it and can’t wait to share it with all of you!
Finally, I’m heading to my parents’ place this weekend (about a 4-hour trip from Vancouver) and will be there for the next 4 weeks. I’ll still be on our Discord server if anyone wants to chat, but with the holidays coming up, I might be a little distracted. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and get a chance to take a much-needed break from the drudgery of life. I’m also super excited for the new year — it’s already shaping up to be an absolutely wild one for us!
I look forward to hearing your reactions to the reveal trailer once it’s ready. I’ll be posting it in our Discord, so if you haven’t joined us there yet, be sure to do so! https://discord.gg/Rrhy2Xkstt
Thank you all for your patience and support!
